Company history

Palmer Funeral Services was first established in 1981 by Ron Palmer. Alongside his wife Jan and their dedicated staff, Ron helped the community deal with loss for over 23 years.
In 2004 Ron sold the business to Eion and Lois McKinnon due to health reasons. As a committed professional, Ron continued to work part time and officially retired in 2009. These days Ron is still involved in the business and will occasionally assist and direct funerals at the request of families he has served during the years.
Palmer Funeral Services is currently managed by Roy Winton.

Our Manager: Roy Winton

Roy Winton
Roy brings over twenty years’ experience in the funeral industry to his role at Palmer Funeral Services. Roy began his career in Christchurch back in 1986 as a Funeral Assistant. In 1988, Roy completed the Embalming course at CIT in Upper Hutt. In 1991, he married Julia and followed her to Wellington where he worked in a funeral home in Porirua. While working in Porirua, Roy went to CIT and gained his Diploma in Funeral Services.
At the end of 1999, Roy returned to Christchurch with Julia and daughter Erica. In 2000 son Andrew was born, so when not at work Roy is busy being a husband and father. His children are very involved in sport with Erica and Andrew both competing in athletics in summer and Andrew playing football in winter. This means spending time encouraging his children from the sideline or stadium and driving them to events.
Roy is a member of the parish of St Mark's Presbyterian where he is in the St Mark's Charitable Trust. Roy is also a helper in Kidzone and he can be found in the kitchen on Mother's Day when he helps organise the Mother’s Day breakfast.
In the little free time Roy has, he attends Rotary and enjoys socialising with friends over the odd glass of wine.
